Last weekend I enjoyed one of the best days of my life, as I married the man I love, Rubidium. A year ago, when we were choosing a venue for our reception dinner, it was with great joy we realized that the Shelburne Museum was a possibility for us. During one of the many trips I took to the Museum as a child, I remember stumbling across a happy bride and groom taking pictures at the Ticonderoga Steamship. I remember the joy I felt at seeing those two people on their special day. I was delighted to learn that Rubidium and I could be akin to that couple, and celebrate our love and commitment in that incredible place. Indeed, the Ti was the perfect place for our reception, and in no small part due to the diligence and spirit of Louis Godin.

From our first meeting with Louis, to the day we were married, he helped us navigate the murky waters of planning and prepping for our big day. From the beginning, Louis went far above and beyond what we could have ever imagined. During our first meeting with Louis my mom recounted a story of missing out on tasting the jumbo shrimp cocktail at her own wedding, in 1969. After 45 years of marriage, she still regretted that single detail! Months later, as Rubidium and I were choosing between potential appetizers, Louis reminded us that we should try to include shrimp on the menu. One of the best moments of my wedding day was seeing the look of surprise and delight on my mom’s face as she realized she was going to eat some delicious shrimp cocktail at my wedding! This is simply one anecdote of many I could relay to you, indicative of Louis’ attention to detail, warmth, and humor during what was a very fun and very stressful time planning for my wedding.

When I had forgotten a small detail, he had it tucked away a gentle reminder, stored for future use. When we were hot, tired, and stressed on our wedding day, he ferried us like a limousine driver between locations to shoot photos. Even though our ceremony was held in the morning on the shores of Malletts Bay in Colchester (far removed from our evening reception aboard the Ti), Louis was there. He helped us navigate the details of our pre-ceremony routine, early in the morning, with grace and humor. Having never hosted a wedding at their lake camp before, my parents were deeply grateful for his presence. After Rubidium and I completed our morning ceremony, we walked back down the beach aisle. I looked out onto all our guests’ smiling faces with joy. The last face I saw as I walked down the aisle, was Louis’. He smiled and said, ‘Thank you’. All I could do at the moment was thank him back. I can’t tell you how deeply moved and grateful I was for his guiding presence on this journey.

Having grown up loving the Shelburne Museum, I know that you couldn’t have found a better ambassador for your venues than Louis. He relays such a passion, joy, and knowledge about the Museum. As Rubidium and I are both film directors working in New York, we spend a lot of time negotiating locations and venues for shoots and events. We have experience with the nitty-gritty of how these transactions work. What a rare gem Louis is to work with; he’s professional, kind, funny, and passionate about his work. I want to steal him and have him work as a locations manager in NYC. What can we say, we want to keep him! All the best, Kai Beverly-Whittemore and Rubidium Wu

Dear Louis, It was such a pleasure to work with you and the Shelburne Museum for the VSNA Fall Convention. We received so many compliments that day about the beauty of the venue and its setting. Matter of fact, attendees gave very high marks for both venue and food on the evaluation forms. The room also had topnotch audio and visual equipment. Most of all, Louis you were so helpful in making the arrangements for our event and helping us on that day. You always responded to our inquiries and requests promptly. Your responsiveness helped the day to go smoothly. Your certainly represent the Museum well and they are lucky to have you. Thank you. We hope to work with you in the future.
